Great Places to Explore in Fish Creek Park!

Annie's Bakery

Kids will be back in school soon, and Labour Day is right around the corner.  Why not take advantage of the last few days of Summer by exploring Canada’s Second Largest Urban Park, Fish Creek Park!

-      First things first, stop by Annie’s Café to grab a coffee and a muffin before your adventure. Did you know the quaint farmhouse was moved to its current spot in 1905, and once housed the ranch foremen and their families.
-      Visit the Environmental Learning Centre situated at the West end of the park, this facility is the perfect starting point to learn more about local history and wildlife, as well as the initiatives underway to maintain the natural balance and beauty of the valley next door.
-      Pack a picnic and head to Shaw’s Meadow and Votiers Flats to spend the day with family and local wildlife.  Find a quiet, relaxing spot to spread out your blanket and soak up the sun.  Shaw’s Meadow and Votiers Flats are known to be prime bird watching areas, and is a great cross-country skiing area in the winter.
-      Looking to gather family and friends for an afternoon by the creek?  Head to Glennfield, made up of three separate open areas that are the perfect place for summer gatherings.  Glennfield is also a prime spot for a quiet evening under the stars.
-      When the days get too hot, head to the Bow River and Fish Creek and enjoy world-class fly fishing, rafting and paddling!  There are plentiful fishing areas along the creek, and a boat launch near Sikome Lake.
-      Speaking of Sikome Lake, at an expansive 99 acres, Sikome Lake is one of Calgary’s most beloved summertime beaches.  Bring your beach towel and enjoy wading, swimming and beach fun! The lake offers aquatic safety staff on site, and change rooms/showers for visitor use.
-      Along with plenty walking and hiking trails, Fish Creek Park also offers a Mountain Bike Skills Park!  Whether you’re looking for a serious work out or a few thrills, this long-awaited new park has enough tracks, trails, jumps and loops for a great day on the pedals.  Don’t forget to bring your helmet!
